While my
day job had always been in Engineering and Management, there was
room to try something new and different.
For the past
several years I have been encouraged by my best friend to
find out about doing Voice-Overs. That led me to attended a class at nearby
Montgomery County Community College. The instructor was John Gallogly, a highly experienced Voice-Over talent and Producer. John works
for Voicecoaches (www.Voicecoaches.com)
where I ended up starting my training. John's two hour class was well
worth the $57 admission price just for the entertainment value as John
is a simply terrific presenter.
I devoured all
the Voicecoaches provided material. It's a good thing
microphones don't wear out from use because I must have recorded two or
three hundred of their practice scripts
Next, I was
fortunate to discover a local Philadelphia Voice Coach and
Industry Legend by the name of Chuck McKibben. Chuck's bio would
fill volumes and they would all be interesting to read. Probably his
most noteworthy accomplishment (and the one that had me most in awe) was
the running of the Mel Blanc Studios in Hollywood for several years.
Chuck's site (www.VoiceOverIsland.com)
naturally has much more information and is definitely worth a visit.
Chuck is a genius
when it comes to putting together a great sounding studio for little
more than lunch money. I can credit him 100% with teaching me how to make a
quality recording at home. Prior to working with Chuck, the only mixing
I knew anything about was either cement, or cake batter. Almost all the
takes contained in the demos on this site were recorded in my Studio
with me doing all post production editing and mixing.
